What the folk
— Hungarian folk revival
200 $ / 4 hrs
Admission fees included
The traditional rural lifestyle has pretty much disappeared in the past decades. However, we can still experience the richness in stylistic articulation and the craftsmanship of our ancestors’ traditional folk art. Thanks to a bunch of youngsters in the 70’s who ventured to remote corners of Hungary and the Carpathian basin. They recorded the last artistic imprints of a disappearing world. They brought what’s left from this knowledge back to the city. A folk revival was born. Today it is more vivid than ever.
Those young guys are grey-haired university professors and teachers now. The old dancers, singers, musicians and craftsmen are long gone, but their heritage is passed on.
On this tour we discover this unique heritage. Try traditional musical instruments, be amazed by the intricate embroideries, get on the loom and let it roll. Take a peek at the techniques of furniture decoration. And see how the traditional motifs live on in the urban environment in the hands of a new generation.
The most tactile tour in town. Taste, see, hear, feel the tradition.
