Description
The roller-coaster history of the Hungarian Jews is intriguing. And it’s all concentrated in Budapest’s 7th district. In the past 200 years the Hungarian Jews were privileged enough to be able to build Europe’s largest synagogue and cursed enough that 80% of them were killed during WW2. Today the Jewish district is a thriving cultural hub again. What’s going on here? This is what we explore. Halfway in the tour we stop for a coffee and ‘flódni’ – a traditional Hungarian-Jewish cake.
Recommended duration: 3 hours.
Optional visit to the Dohány street synagogue complex on request.
Merge this tour with the “Jewish deluxe” behind the scenes synagogue tour for the real deal!
